Story Behind the Peninsula Watch – Caseback
The Peninsula Collection takes its inspiration from one of the earliest chapters of Earth’s natural history, the supercontinent Gondwana. Over millions of years, Gondwana separated into the landmasses we know today. India was once part of this giant continent, and its journey shaped the subcontinent’s varied geography and ecosystems.
India is often described as mega-diverse because it contains almost every major biome. From the snow-covered Himalayan mountains in the north to deserts, fertile plains, tropical forests, and three surrounding seas, the Indian landscape reflects a scale and range that few countries share.
The Peninsula Collection is a watch line that draws from this diversity. Each model represents one of these ecosystems — the mountains, the forests, and the ocean, along with a limited-edition watch that highlights the richness of India’s natural materials.

Design Inspired by India’s Landscapes
There are four watches in the Peninsula Collection, each connected to a specific biome.
Zanskar represents the mountains. The watch takes its name from the remote and snow-covered Zanskar region of the Himalayas. Known for rare wildlife, frozen rivers, and sparsely populated valleys, Zanskar reflects the colder regions of India and the rugged terrain that shapes life there.
Agumbe represents the forests. The deep green dial draws from the tropical forests of the Western Ghats, a region known for some of the highest rainfall in the country. Agumbe is often referred to as one of India’s rainiest places, and the watch reflects the ecosystem’s dense vegetation and biodiversity.
Laccadive represents the ocean. Surrounded by three major seas, India has a strong maritime identity. The Laccadive Sea, in particular, is home to coral reefs and rich marine life. The deep blue dial reflects the underwater world and the lesser-seen life beneath the surface.
The limited-edition Mannar honors the Gulf of Mannar, once home to the black-lip oyster. Only 50 watches were made using black mother-of-pearl from this region. No two dials are identical because the material forms naturally over time inside the oyster shell.
This outdoor watch collection pays tribute to places that exist much before human memory and continue to define the identity of this land.
A Case Design with Meaning
The case of the Peninsula watches features a pebble-inspired shape, a reminder of weathered stones formed in rivers and coastlines. The watch is modern in construction, but the form is rooted in natural shapes that exist everywhere in the Indian subcontinent.
Many watches focus only on the dial. However, the caseback of the Peninsula Series also carries the story. Each piece features etched iconography representing India’s natural environments. It’s a reminder of the inspiration behind the watch and a detail that often goes unnoticed but adds depth to the ownership experience.

Continuing the Journey of Modern Indian Watchmaking
At Bangalore Watch Company, our work has explored Indian stories across aviation, space exploration, naval history, and sport. The Peninsula Collection extends that journey into the natural world.
It takes time and careful design thinking to execute a watch collection with a clear story end-to-end — from materials to design finishing. With Peninsula, the idea was not only to create a watch but to build a connection to the landscapes we come from.
The Peninsula Collection represents our ongoing effort to build modern Indian watches with purpose — watches that celebrate India’s past, its present identity, and its natural heritage.
