A Case Shaped by the Coast

The Peninsula Mannar is built around the waters of the Gulf of Mannar. This region, once known as India’s historic pearl delta, is defined by depth, movement, and changing light. The dial reflects this through black mother-of-pearl, a material formed within pearl oysters, long valued by empires and Tamil kings.

The surface of the dial carries shifting tones of blue, green, and purple depending on how light falls on it. This natural variation sets the foundation for the rest of the watch, including the choice of case.

Form That Follows Nature

The case of the Peninsula collection is built in a pebble shape, inspired by forms found across natural landscapes on coastlines, riverbeds, and mountain trails. It is smooth, rounded, and designed to sit comfortably on the wrist without traditional lugs, allowing the case profile to flow seamlessly into the strap.

Across this outdoor watch collection, this form remains consistent, but the finish changes depending on the story. Models like Agumbe and Laccadive use a brushed stainless-steel surface that reflects their environments, while Zanskar pairs a lighter steel case with its white, textured dial inspired by snow-covered terrain.

Mannar takes a different direction. The depth and colour play of the dial required a contrasting case, leading to the use of a black PVD-coated finish.

Built in Black PVD

The Mannar case is made from surgical-grade stainless steel and finished with a black PVD coating. Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) is a process where a thin, durable coating is applied to the steel at a molecular level. This improves surface hardness, resistance to wear, and gives the case its consistent dark finish.

The black case complements the dial without overpowering it. It allows the natural tones of the black mother-of-pearl to stand out, while maintaining a clean and balanced profile. This finish is also used in other pilot watch collection MACH 1 ® such as Synchro, Aviator, and Avalanche, where a darker case aligns with the design language of the watch.

Designed for Everyday Use

The Peninsula Mannar is built as an outdoor watch, with a water resistance of 20 ATM. While not a traditional dive watch, it is suited for everyday wear, including swimming and weekend activities.

The watch is paired with an FKM strap, designed to handle India’s humid and varied climate. The black strap complements the case, while alternative straps inspired by different regions offer additional ways to wear the watch.

A Collection Built on Place

The Peninsula collection reflects India’s diverse geography through design, material, and form. Each watch represents a different landscape from forests and coastlines to high-altitude regions, translated into a wearable object.

At Bangalore Watch Company, every watch is built around a story from modern India. From aviation and space to sport and the outdoors, the focus remains on creating automatic Indian watches that connect design with context. The Mannar continues this approach, bringing together material from the sea, a case built for contrast, and a form shaped by nature.
