Gradient Apogee Dial
From space, light is not static. It moves, expands, fades, and shifts depending on where it originates and what it interacts with. The Apogee collection from Bangalore Watch Company translates this behaviour of light into the dial of a watch, using a fumé finish to recreate that gradual transition from brightness to darkness.
A fumé dial is defined by its gradient. It transitions from a lighter, more luminous centre to a darker edge, creating a natural falloff of light. Unlike uniform finishes, this pattern does not reflect light evenly. It concentrates brightness at the centre and gradually absorbs it towards the periphery. The result is a dial that appears to change depth and tone depending on the angle and lighting conditions, giving a sense of movement rather than a flat surface.
This controlled gradient becomes the foundation for storytelling within this space-qualified watch collection. Each watch uses the same principle of light transition but applies it to a different phenomenon in space.

Three Phenomena, One Language of Dial
The Apogee Supernova is based on one of the most energetic events in the universe. A supernova is the explosion of a star, releasing immense energy and light. Some of these events are observed with a green hue. The watch reflects this through a green fumé dial that starts bright at the centre and fades into black at the edges, representing the intensity at the core and the gradual dissipation of light outward. The finish creates a visual effect of expansion, similar to how energy spreads in space.
The Apogee Horizon takes inspiration from the view of Earth from low orbit. From this perspective, the planet is outlined by a thin blue glow where the atmosphere meets space. The blue fumé dial captures this transition, moving from a brighter blue centre to a darker edge, similar to how the horizon fades into the darkness of space. The effect is more stable and uniform compared to the Supernova, reflecting the calm and continuous nature of this phenomenon.
The Apogee Earthshine is based on the soft illumination seen on the darker side of the Moon. This occurs when sunlight reflects off Earth and lights up the Moon indirectly. The resulting colour is a pale brown or caffe latte tone. The fumé finish on this dial recreates that subtle gradient, where the centre holds a soft glow and gradually darkens outward, mirroring the way reflected light spreads across the lunar surfac
Built Around Material and Meaning
All watches in the Apogee collection are built using Cerasteel®, combined with a Swiss automatic movement and a dual time zone function. While the engineering remains consistent, each watch differs in how the dial expresses its story through colour and light behaviour.
What connects the collection is the transition from darkness to colour. Each dial begins with a black base, representing space, and moves into a specific colour that reflects its phenomenon. This consistent design approach ensures that every watch remains part of the same narrative while still being distinct.
Design That Reflects Its Story
At Bangalore Watch Company, design is directly linked to the story behind each Indian watch. Elements such as the dial finish, indices, and materials are chosen to represent the concept rather than being purely decorative.
For example, the Cover Drive watch uses matte dials with stencil-style indices that reference boundary markings in cricket. Similarly, the Apogee collection uses fumé dials and light-based gradients to reflect space phenomena and the legacy of India’s space program.
Each collection is designed to represent a different aspect of modern India, from geography and space to sports and aviation watch collections. Apogee focuses on science, exploration, and the broader universe, using the behaviour of light as its core design language.
