Tree Stands Tall on the Dial

India’s geography is a study in contrast and continuity. From the frozen ridges of the Himalayas to the tropical coasts of the south, the landscape shifts dramatically, but what connects these regions is the vast expanse of forests that shape the country’s climate and culture. Together, India’s forests and tree cover extend across more than 827,000 square kilometers, forming one of the planet’s most diverse ecosystems.

In the north, alpine and temperate forests line the Himalayan slopes. In the east, dense green stretches thrive with a richness of life. Down south, the tropical rainforests of the Western Ghats stand as one of India’s greatest natural treasures. The Western Ghats are a UNESCO World Heritage site, and within them lies Agumbe - one of the wettest places on earth. It’s here that the story of the Peninsula Agumbe begins. This rainforest, always drenched in mist and monsoon, inspired a watch that celebrates the idea of nature’s abundance.

Nature as a Design Language

Throughout history, trees have held meaning beyond their physical form. Their colors, textures, and silhouettes have inspired countless designs, from architecture to textiles and, in this case, horology. Watches have long drawn inspiration from nature, finding ways to translate natural elements into forms of craftsmanship and storytelling. The Peninsula collection from Bangalore Watch Company™ continues this tradition by exploring India’s natural terrains through design.;

These are the watches inspired by nature - from forests to mountains and the sea. But among these variations, one element remains constant: the tree index at 9 o’clock on the dial. Subtle yet symbolic, it represents India’s forests and their enduring presence. Opposite to it sits the wave index at 3 o’clock, connecting the land and water in a balanced visual symmetry.

The Story Behind the Tree Index

In the Peninsula Agumbe, the tree index evokes the wet forests of the Western Ghats, where the trunks glisten under perpetual rainfall. The Peninsula Zanskar draws from the high-altitude valleys of the Himalayas, where trees are rare but resilient, surviving against harsh conditions. The Peninsula Laccadive represents the blue expanse of the Indian Ocean, placing the tree motif against a dial that captures the calm and depth of the sea. The Peninsula Mannar takes it further with a black mother-of-pearl dial that shifts hues between violet, blue, and green, its tree index glowing softly in the dark.

This glow is made possible by the application of Super-Luminova BGW9, which gives the tree index its luminous blue-white brilliance when light fades. It’s a small detail that brings the watch to life after dusk, much like how moonlight reveals new textures in a forest canopy.

Storytelling Through Detail

Attention to such detail has always been a hallmark of Bangalore Watch Company™. Every collection is designed to tell a story that connects to India’s identity and achievements. In the Mach 1 series, the Indian Air Force fin flash appears at 9 o’clock as a tribute to the country’s aviation heritage. On other models, the coordinates of Sriharikota - India’s space launch site sit proudly on the dial. The Peninsula collection continues this lineage of storytelling through design.

From its indices and case materials to the engravings on its caseback, each element shows a piece of India’s geography and the craftsmanship that brings it to life. Built for depths of up to 660 feet, the Peninsula is an outdoor watch that carries more than function, it carries meaning.

The Peninsula collection transforms India’s diverse terrain into design, allowing wearers to carry a small piece of its wilderness on their wrists. Each time you glance at the dial, the indices, the light, and the texture come together to tell a quiet story.
